The Matterhorn 12 is engineered to reach the CEDIA RP‑22 screen channel target — 85 dB reference average with headroom for 105 dB peaks — in medium and large rooms, with the front array sitting behind an acoustically transparent screen.

Coverage is 80° conical and symmetrical, and the coaxial arrangement is what makes that figure mean something: the high frequencies leave from the acoustic centre of the woofer, so the loudspeaker behaves as one source rather than two at different heights. RP‑22 verifies performance across the whole seating area rather than at one measurement position, so consistency from the primary seat to the last row matters more than an impressive on-axis response. The 12 is voiced for dialogue intelligibility first, with the dynamic range that lossless formats such as Dolby Atmos and DTS:X ask for.

The cabinet is sealed, as every model in the range is. Across the crossover region that means the 12 rolls off gently and predictably into the 18S rather than handing over from a port, so the join is set by the crossover rather than by two enclosures behaving differently either side of it.

It is designed to be used in threes. A matched LCR array keeps timbre consistent as sound pans across the screen — the single most audible difference between a cinema that has been designed and one that has been assembled.

What that means at the seat.

Maximum SPL at one metre is a fact about the loudspeaker. What decides whether a room works is the level at the seat, which falls with distance and rises with how the room loads the cabinet. Below is a single Matterhorn 12 in a baffle wall, measured against the RP‑22 screen-channel peak target of 105 dB at the primary seat.

Headroom is what remains above the 105 dB target once the seat distance is paid for. Figures assume the loudspeaker in a baffle wall and include an estimated +6 dB of boundary gain from that loading; free-standing, subtract it. Screen loss and the room’s own acoustics are accounted for in the system design rather than here.

Yes — that is what it is designed for. A screen costs a little output, and the 12 is specified with that loss already accounted for rather than discovered afterwards.

Three. A cinema needs a discrete centre channel; dialogue anchored to the screen is most of what makes the illusion hold. A phantom centre drifts as you move off the primary seat.

Reference level is defined at the seat, not at the loudspeaker. The 12 is sized so that it reaches that level while working well within itself, which is what keeps peaks clean rather than merely loud.
